Designing rehabilitation exergames for children with unilateral cerebral palsy using inertial sensors on the wrist for real time motion tracking. Accepted Version. FG Medizintechnik Fak. Maschinenkonstruktion und Systemtechnik FG Medizintechnik. Children with unilateral cerebral palsy CP have reduced body function of their affected side. Most children learn to walk, but hand and arm function remains behind. Patients benefit from intensive therapy to improve their participation in everyday life and reduce secondary impairments such as growth retardation. Children often perceive therapy as tiring or even boring due to yearlong treatment durations. In addition, a lack of specialised physiotherapists and geographical barriers limit therapy access. Novel technology-based therapy approaches provide engaging, motivating and intensive therapy for young patients. This dissertation aims to develop digital exergames for the upper limb using new technologies, methods and algorithms. The first step proposes a simple sensor setup consisting of two inertial sensors on each wrist. An application with a use concept, including a feedback option and a setting area, will complement the game setup. It considers the synergies of therapeutic requirements, motivating game design and technical realisation in the highly interdisciplinary environment. The continuous involvement of therapeutic experts and affected children forms the basis of the user-centred development approach. The sensor setup, use concept and development method foster user-friendliness and, thus, high acceptance of the technical system in the sensitive therapeutic environment of children with CP. In the further course of the work, four holistic virtual exergames are developed based on Cerebral palsy dating. The target groups are school children and teenagers. The novel movement algorithm translates the therapeutic relevant arm movements into innovative control parameters for the game mechanics and automatically adapts to the range of movement. Objective feedback from the sensor data is also made possible. The development considers the continuous involvement of therapists and children with cerebral palsy in the brainstorming, decision-making processes and final evaluation. In an user test in a therapeutic environment, seven affected children test three of the games. The proposed movement algorithm enables a positive gaming experience. The different themes meet personal preferences, and the adaptable game difficulty through individually adjustable motor and cognitive levels enables participants with varying degrees of severity to play. Validation with an optical marker-based measurement system proves the system's high accuracy cerebral palsy dating movement tracking. In summary, this thesis describes the development of a new therapy option for children with unilateral CP through exergames, which foster engaging arm training. The system comprises a simple sensor configuration and a game environment. Innovative movement algorithms, precise control parameters and objective feedback options promote technical reliability, acceptance of the system and individual therapy cerebral palsy dating. Considering usability in the interdisciplinary field of digital rehabilitation exergames, the holistic game concepts are obtained based on the novel development method TPDP.

Globally, more than 1 in 10 newborn is born prematurely 1 2. The magnesium sulfate is administered antenatally to the mother in the event of imminent premature birth. However, further research is needed to determine which doses of magnesium and up to which gestational age the administration is useful. Additional calcium flows into the cell through the activated NMDA channels. Also, Doyle et al. In Staaten mit niedrigerem Lebensstandard Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern deutet sich eine im Vergleich zu den Industriestaaten höhere Prävalenz an 10 There is a possibility that potentially existing publication bias is not sufficiently considered in the conclusions and the reported effect of antenatal magnesium sulfate administration appears greater than it possibly is.
