Abstract The focus of the present paper is the process of morphological reanalysis which extensively affected the Old English minor paradigms, contributing to their subsequent complete restructuring. The development is manifested in a marked inclination of the nouns considered minor i. The tendency can be particularly well seen in the formations containing the original u -stems, which constituted a separate group in Germanic, known in the standard historical grammars as the u -declension. The available textual material proves that members of this relatively small group of nouns tend to fluctuate between the inherited and innovative paradigmatic patterns, testifying thus to a growing instability of this declensional type. Aimed at presenting a systematic account of the newly emerging tendency, this investigation will seek to determine the extent and the pattern of dissemination of the productive inflectional endings in the original u -stems. Due attention will be paid to the niceties of the process of gradual reorganisation of the u -stem paradigm, its consequences in the later inflectional system of English, as well as its theoretical implications. Its innovative character has often been noted. However, there is as yet no agreed explanation as to the conceptual origin of fullwiht lit. As is known, in Anglo-Saxon England there were some divergences between Roman and non-Roman liturgical customs in the performance of the baptismal rite. A distinctive feature of the Roman liturgy was confirmatiowhich consisted in the laying on of hands and in the second post-baptismal anointing performed by the bishop, and was regarded as the conclusive part of the ceremony. Fullwiht would be — in my opinion — a term used by Roman missionaries to underline the completeness of their ceremony andrew scott dating history initiation compared to non-Roman rites, which very likely lacked the episcopal confirmatio. April The Poetry of Lastness: Reconsidering a Neglected Motif in Early Nineteenth-Century Literature. Ralph Pordzik. Abstract This essay explores a short-lived poetic subgenre that flourished during the first decades of the Victorian century. Apocalyptic poems addressing the idea of the Last Man enjoyed a surge of critical interest between and but fell into oblivion soon after. Some prominent samples by Thomas Campbell, Thomas Hood and Eugenius Roche will be selected for closer analysis in order to carve out the significant role the genre played in the transitional period between late Romanticism and Victorianism. It will be argued these poems were crucial in their negotiating anxieties gaining wider popularity not until the later decades of the century. More subdued in style and poetic imagery than their Romantic precursors, they juxtapose the perceived menace of a wayward history and incalculable universe with the idea of the solitude and abjectness of man as one of its foremost consequences, while also countering the more extravagant forms of Romantic lyrical egotism and the encroaching materialism of the age. April John Keats and the Ethics of Disappearance. Jennifer Wawrzinek. Abstract This paper argues that the process of imaginative engagement with the world and its others depicted in the work of John Keats is one that is underwritten by the dissolution and annihilation of the poetic self as fundamental to the ethical relation. Through an examination of Keats's letters to Fanny Brawne from the Isle of Wight and his long poem entitled The Fall of Hyperion. A DreamI illustrate the way in which the ethical relation generated by the self in retreat before the loved one gestures towards the poem's insistence upon the opening of culture and society to the ethical concerns of that which is beyond language and which is yet to arrive. I argue that the Keatsian ethical relation disables claims to power upon which identity and knowledge are constructed in order to configure the andrew scott dating history of society and culture as one that must be necessarily open to the world and the future if it is to avoid the andrew scott dating history and destruction generated by a knowledge gained at the expense of others and the world. It simultaneously gestures towards a notion of community beyond identity and underscores the sheer possibility inherent to relation in general.

The focus of the commentary is primarily historical, and serves to elucidate general historical developments rather than specific points of detail. Moreover, Scott's commentary is sympathetic to the literary aspects of Dio's history, more so than some of the earlier contributions to the series, which reflects the broader changes in approaches to Dio in the thirty years which separate Reinhold's commentary from Scott's.
